Contemporary Noise Quintet is a Polish jazz band. However, it would not be fair to call their music only jazz. Yes, certainly jazz music has its own complexity and consists of many different elements and tunes, but CNQ's jazz has an even more unique entirety. Bartek Chacinski summarizes their music as, 'Something like jazz - jazz music without jazz, film music without movie but something splendid instead'.

The band's name suggests that what you are about to hear will be an exaggerated blend of instruments, however it just shows their sense of humour. They use some heavy brass instruments which is harsh at times but then they smoothly pass on to softer, more romantic tunes.



Contemporary Noise Quintet's one and only album, Pig Inside The Gentleman, is both elegant and energetic. Considering Kuba and Bartek Kapsa's previous Something Like Elvis experience, CNQ's energy surely comes from their post-rock and punk past.

Definitely one of the 'must's.
